Altar Guild
One of the most significant roles of the Altar Guild is the preparation of the Eucharist. The chalices, paten, linens, bread, water, grape juice & wine must be set with a reverence that reminds us of their sacred purpose. There’s a quiet wisdom to these tasks, born from years of experience and the desire to serve God in humble, unseen ways. The Altar Guild also tends to the seasonal changes of the church. During Advent and Christmas, we transform the church with decorations that speak to the joy of Christ’s birth. During Lent, our work shifts to a more somber preparation. Holy Week is our busiest time, requiring daily dedication as services change from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday.
This ministry is also responsible for preparation of the Altar for all worship services including Baptisms, Weddings, Memorial services and Funerals, care of Altar linens, prepare Altar Flowers/Greenery, polish silver and brass vessels, care of the Sacristy, provide supplies and elements for the Eucharist, care of the chapel and additional duties as needed or assigned.
If you like working with fine linens, flowers and learning new things about the Liturgy, consider
joining us. Try it out for a Sunday morning with an experienced partner. No experience is required, just the love of serving God with a beautiful Altar. Please see any one of our members listed below or contact the church office to leave your information and we will contact you.
